A main theme throughout [title of show] is this idea of four people with various personalities coming together to create a production. With it being a very fluid musical as well, it called for having a neutral, yet still distinctive, costume design. I tapped into having the different personalities of the characters being reflective of different fashion eras through the decades, which was only reinforced through the character's motivations in a modern sense.

The costume designs essentially made themselves when creating the compositions, as a lot of modern clothing nowadays are heavily inspired by different eras of fashion. Hunter's character had the intention of writing a play with Jeff to reach fame and success, so it made sense to give him an outfit that formulaically is casual, but still has a preppy and fixed-up presence. Being the main driving force of writing their play, Jeff does not have time to focus on his appearance. It was about dressing him into something with sentiment, so incorporating a 50's/60's vintage bowling shirt fit that description perfectly. Susan would be the one of the four that would be directly modern, as she had a full-time office job that she would constantly be coming from in the production. I decided to still give her something a little striking with her green silk blouse, to match her characteristic of still making it a point to be heard. With a very tomboy mentality, the rest of her outfit was completed with the idea of comfort in mind. Through the whole show, Heidi shows her eagerness through her exuberant energy. It only made sense to draw inspiration from a style that focused on volume and silhouettes, hence giving her wide-legged jeans and a flowing top with many accessories to reflect that.

The final result was a wide range of costume styles that reflected each of the character's purpose, and showed their balance in strengths that could interact seamlessly with one another.
